An idea for the use of solar energy and self-driving cars.

I live in Denmark. It’s not a sunny place. Lots of clouds and rain and so on. However, my family only needs a 2,4 kWp system to serve our needs. It will cost our family roughly 10.000 USD to buy and have it installed  on our roof. (I know, Danish prices are insane.) And by Danish standards and prices, it would take about ten years to earn that money back.
However, if we had an electric car. Things would be different, because solar energy = free fuel.

The problem is that we are using the car during the sunny hours. Which means that a lot of energy is wasted, because we have to sell it back to the electric company. Of course there is there are products like the Tesla Powerwall that lets you store the energy for later use.

That’s all great. However, I may have a better idea:

Selfdriving cars are upon us. And that may even change the way we buy cars, meaning that we don’t.
Let me explain. Instead of buying a car, you lease one for a short while, and you pay for each and every ride. Just like a taxi.
Now imagine that these selfdriving taxis are electric vehicles. Wouldn’t it be great if you could sell back your solar energy to the “taxi company”?
Meaning, your bill at the end of the month would look something like this.
Fares: 100 USD
Energy sold: 30 USD
You pay: 70 USD

The technology is already here. The Tesla Snake Charger can charge the car without human assistance.

So why not do it? I get to sell my energy, and earn back my 10k a lot faster, and the taxi/leasing company has charging stations all over town.

It’s clean, it’s free and everybody wins - especially the environment.
